Pink delivers touching speech to her daughter at last night’s VMAs

'You, my darling girl, are beautiful.'

A worthy winner of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at this year’s VMA Awards.

Pink was the artist honoured last night with the award and made sure to use her speech to spread positivity.

Ellen DeGeneres took to the stage to present the award to the hit-maker, saying:

“I love Pink. She is my friend. I think she is the most incredible performer.

“When she said she would like me to give her this award, I was honoured. I said ‘absolutely’.”

Accepting the award, Pink made her limited time of the mic count with a very empowering speech aimed at her daughter, Willow.

“I know we don’t have a lot of time,” she said, “but if I may tell you a quick story.

“Recently, I was driving my daughter home from school and she said, ‘Mamma, I’m the ugliest girl I know. I look like a boy with long hair’.”

The mum revealed she was shocked to hear her daughter talk about herself that way and wanted to make sure it didn’t continue.

“I went home and made a PowerPoint presentation for her. And in the presentation, there were androgynous rock stars and artists that live their truth and are probably made fun of every day of their lives and carry on.

“They wave their flag and inspire the rest of us.”

The singer went on to talk about the years she had to deal with insults about her appearance.

“When people make fun of me, they say they look like a boy, I’m too masculine, I have too many opinions, or my body is too strong.”

The singer went on to remind her daughter of why all those things are totally irrelevant, and why she should embrace the person she is and wants to be.

The incredible speech came after a crowd-pleasing performance of all of her biggest hits throughout the years.

From Get The Party Started to her current single What About Us, the performance had everyone singing along, including six-year-old Willow.

In seven minutes, Pink reminded audiences exactly how much of an impact she’s had on the music industry.
