Prince William wants to teach Prince George this life-saving skill

"Because of what you've done - it's really important."

The Duke of Cambridge was inspired by a little girl who saved her mum’s life by ringing 999 – and said he would teaching Prince George to do the same.

The dad-of-two was speaking to Suzie McCash, 5, from North Tyneside, at the Pride of Britain awards on Monday night when he heard her story.

Suzie, who won a Child of Courage award on the night, was just four years old when she rang 999 and described her mum’s symptoms to emergency service responders when she collapsed and her breathing stopped.

According to the Telegraph, Prince William told the young girl he had “no idea” how Prince George would act under the same situation.

He said:

“I have a four-year-old called George and if I gave him a telephone, I do not know what he would do.

“Do you know what, I’m going to have a conversation with my George about what to do because of what you’ve done – it’s really important.”

Prince William and Suzie

Suzie’s mum, Rowena, suffers from a life-threatening allergy to salicylates, often found in even just tiny traces of oranges and almonds.

She had been at the park with her daughter, but when they returned home and she stepped in the door, she began to feel dizzy.

Within minutes, she collapsed in the hallway and was struggling to breathe.

Quick-thinking Suzie carefully described her mum’s situation to the emergency call handler, who, in turn, guided paramedics to the family’s home.

Suzie told the operator, “Mummy’s got her eyes closed” and “I’m not sure if Mummy can talk’ before fetching her mum’s epi-pen.

The young girl was able to let the paramedics in when they arrived, who then gave Rowena lifesaving treatment before rushing her to the hospital.

Suzie said of the incident:

“Mummy had an anaphylactic shock and I rang 999. I then got her medicine to make her feel better. They said I should hold mummy’s hand, so I did.”
