The mum-of-one’s post has stirred conversation.
Serena Williams took to social media this week to share that in the near-year since her daughter Olympia was born, she hasn’t spent a day apart from her.
The tennis champ posted on Twitter to say:
“319 days since I gave birth to this amazing baby. I’ve spent 319 of those days with her.
“I’m so fortunate.”

However, as Louise McSharry pointed out, not all mums get to say the same and not all of them want to.
Reminding parents that either way is OK, she retweeted the post on her own Twitter, saying:
“This is cool, but it’s also OK to be away from your baby sometimes.”

Louise’s post resulted in a conversation on the issue in the comment section, with mams sharing their opinion on the topic.
“If it suits you and your baby,” one mother wrote.
“Women judge women as much for not wanting time away. In the end, we are all only judging ourselves and participating in internalised misogyny if we catch ourselves assuming other women can’t be happy doing what feels right to them.”
Another mum responded saying that she thinks time apart from her kids makes her “a better mother”.
“Everyone should do what works for them and their families,” she said. “I feel this kind of tweet feeds the ‘Mammy guilt’ that we all feel.”
