11 Beautiful Baby Names Inspired by Enid Blyton Story Books

Katie Mythen-Lynch

If you spent your childhood following The Famous Five and The Secret Seven around deserted headlands, or deep in Cornwall with the boarding school students of Malory Towers, you’ll understand the addictive power of Enid Blyton’s writing.

Sure, she’s not famous for being politically correct and some of the attitudes towards gender roles, race and disciplining children are clearly more of her time than of our’s (remember The Magic Faraway Tree’s angry school teacher Dame Slap?) but she’ll always be a part of our childhoods and her books have been consumed whole by captivated kids since the 1930s, selling more than 600 million copies, translated into almost 90 languages.

Here are 10 sweet names inspired by her captivating characters…

Amelia Jane: This character was based on a large handmade doll Enid gave to her daughter Gillian on her third birthday.

Bessie: The second youngest sibling of three in The Faraway Tree

Enid: What better tribute than to name your little one after the writer herself?

Elizabeth: (Allen), the only child who became The Naughtiest Girl in the School

Darrell: (Rivers), the determined protagonist of Malory Towers

Georgina: The headstrong and courageous cousin in The Famous Five. Blyton eventually revealed that this character was based on herself.

Isabel (O’Sullivan) one of the main characters in the St. Clare’s series

Julian: The eldest of The Famous Five and the leader of the group.

Mirabel: Games captain at St. Clare’s boarding school

Mollie and Peter: The children who found The Wishing Chair

The Harries: Twins Harry and Harriet “the twinniest twins I’ve ever seen” both went by the same name.
