Under-12s to get free admission to all OPW heritage sites

A great excuse to explore Ireland this summer.

Planning a family day out?

You might be pleased to hear that a number of attractions nationwide will be free for kids from this weekend.

Under-12s will have free entry to all heritage sites run by the Office of Public Works (OPW) Heritage Service from Saturday 1 July.

This will extend the free admission to OPW sites that children under the age of six already enjoy, making keeping the kids occupied a little easier this summer.

This will be “a huge opportunity to encourage our children to experience some of the best cultural and heritage sites in the country,” Minister of State Kevin Boxer Moran said.

Here are some of our favourite spots around Ireland that’ll now be free for under-12s from Saturday.

Muckross House, Killarney, County Kerry

The Rock of Cashel, County Tipperary

Kilkenny Castle

Fota Gardens, County Cork

The Swiss Cottage, Cahir, County Tipperary

Newmills Corn and Flax Mills, Letterkenny

Connemara National Park, County Galway
