5 great pumpkin patches around Ireland to bring the kids to this month

It's becoming our favourite autumn tradition.

Trine Jensen-Burke

“I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers,” L.M. Montgomery wrote in Anne of Green Gables.

And we are too. October is beautiful. Our favourite fall month of crisp mornings and orange leaves on the ground. Of hot apple fritters and cozy hats and scarves. And pumpkins. Lots and lots of pumpkins.

If you love the idea of taking the kids to visit a pumpkin patch, where you can pick your very own pumpkin, straight from the farm, we have rounded up five brilliant places across Ireland where you can do just that:

(Remember that these are all outdoor events, so do dress appropriately!)

1. Kennedy’s Pumpkin Path, Julianstown, Co. Meath

I have actually visited Kennedy’s Pumpkin Patch with my own children the last two years in a row, and this will let you know what an amazing experience it was: We have just booked our tickets to go again in a couple of weeks.

Think a field filled with pumpkins of all shapes and sizes, hot apple fritters, warm cider, pumpkin carving, hay jumping and pretty much the perfect, perfect autumn day out.

2. Tinahely Farm, Coolruss, Co. Wicklow

The Tinahely pumpkins are ready to be picked! Children of all ages will have a great time picking their pumpkin from the pumpkin field, then head back to the Activity Barn and get your hot chocolate and enjoy indoor Halloween activities.

3. Alright Pumpkin, Fordstown, Co. Meath

At Alright Pumpkin, the whole family can have fun have picking your own pumpkin and sweet corn, as well as having fun trying out their pumpkin maze and watch pumpkin carving demonstrations.

The best bit? You don’t have to book ahead.

5. The Farm in Grenagh, Co. Cork

Kids of all ages will have a scream at The Farm in Grenagh, where you can visit the Pumpkin Patch in the Secret Garden and choose the Pumpkin that’s just right for you.
