5 must-have apps for mamas and mamas-to-be

Alison Bough

It’s hard to remember a time when we lived without apps.

Parenting and apps are a match made in heaven – they help you to organise and schedule the chaos that is family life and can even make the nine months of pregnancy more enjoyable.

We’ve saved you a search and rounded up the apps for mamas and mamas-to-be:

HowStuffWorks (Free)

Every child goes through the ‘why’ stage and sometimes the never-ending questions really stump us.  Continuous chimes of ‘Why this, Mum? ‘Why that, Mum?’ can be repetitive and sometimes we genuinely don’t know the answers. The HowStuffWorks app is a handy collection of answers to your child’s most bizarre questions and you’ll finally be able to tell them the reasons why dogs bark and airplanes fly. It’s also a good (educational) one to pass the time in waiting rooms.

iRewardChart: Parents Reward Tracker Chore Chart (Free)

This app allows you to track your child’s behaviour. You can track your child’s completed chores and whether or not they have practiced their music. The app awards gold stars for good behaviour throughout the week and a reward at the end is great motivation for children to keep up the good work. This app won the ‘Best Parenting App’ crown three years in a row and best of all it’s free.

iPregnancy (€4.49)

This app is a fun way to keep track of your pregnancy and how your baby is developing week by week. It tracks your weight and appointments as your pregnancy progresses. iPregnancy even suggests baby names and allows you to keep a list of your favourites.

Baby Feed Timer – Breastfeeding Baby Timer (€5.49)

Recommended by midwives, this app offers nursing and feeding tracking including reminders. You can track your baby’s feed times, amounts and get a total of how much you’ve fed your baby each day.

Cloud Baby Monitor

This popular app turns your iDevice into a secure video baby monitor. You can keep one device with your baba and watch live video with audio on your other devices. Cloud Baby will notify you about all your baby’s movements with noise and motion alerts.
