Apparently, most of us think we are doing a far better job raising kids than our parents did

We’re full of confidence, it seems.

According to a brand new survey, the majority of parents today reckon they are doing a better job at raising kids than their own mums and dads

The researchers recently polled 2000 parents of school-aged children, and what they discovered, was that a whopping 78 percent of them said that yes, they do indeed believe they are better parents than their own had been.

One of the most interesting stats from the survey was on the use of disciplinary tactics, with the majority of millennial parents saying they didn’t think the tactics used on them as kids (being sent to bed without dinner, a slap or spanking) were appropriate, and so they are not using them with their own children.

But despite most of us feeling like we are doing a good job, most of the parents surveyed admitted to thinking parenting is harder today than it was for our own parents, mostly on account of life being busier, and feeling like there is little to no work/life balance these days.

Other recent studies have shown that this is indeed true, and that most of us feel like parenting is harder now than ever before. Both today’s mums and dads spend far more time with their children than previous generations ever did, but at the same time, there is pressure and demands from careers in a way our parents might not have felt it.

On a positive note, most parents today admitted to loving being parents, and says they are enjoying raising their children – despite it being hard at times. Obviously, this is not to say that our mothers and grandmothers didn’t feel the same way, but there is no denying that parents today have more control and choice when it comes to when and how to start their own family than previous generations had. And this, no doubt, is a contributor to feeling happy about the status quo.
