Katie Mythen-Lynch

Sophia has topped the list of most popular New York baby names for the third year running.

More Big Apple baby girls were called Sophia or Sofia than any other name, in a top five that included Isabella, Olivia, Mia and Emma.

According to data released by the Health Department, Ethan came out tops for boys, replacing the previous year’s winner Jayden, which is now in fourth place.

There were 122,084 babies born in New York City in 2014, up 1.35 per cent since 2013, 18,143 of which were born in Manhattan (lucky things!).

The top 10 most popular girl names were: Sophia, Isabella, Olivia, Mia, Emma, Emily, Leah, Ava, Sofia and Chloe.

The top 10 most popular boy names were: Ethan, Jacob, Liam, Jayden, Noah, Daniel, Michael, Alexander, David and Matthew.
