Rekindle the romance with a little Us Time

Gorge on seafood in Howth

Dublin Bay Prawn Festival

prawn

Whatever way you like your prawns – barbecued, whole, shelled, fried, skewered, marinated, sauced – you’ll find your favourite style in Howth this weekend at the Dublin Bay Prawn Festival. It kicks off today, with a selection of interesting walks, art exhibitions and workshops taking place too. We’ll be kicking off Saturday with a bracing cliff walk led by Eugene O’Sullivan (10am) and learning how to fillet a fish like a pro on Sunday at Nicky’s Plaice (12.30pm). Perfect if your babysitters prefer the day shift.

Choose some new wines for your next get-together

L’Atitude 51, Union Quay, Cork

wines

Bored of opting for the same old bottles all the time? What better excuse to enjoy a midweek tipple or three than a fact finding mission at a wine bar. Charming Master of Wine Jane Boyce will present her favourite wines for Spring on Wednesday at the cosy L’Attitude Wine Bar on Union Quay. Tickets (€15) include canapes and the fun begins at 7.30pm.

Ditch the diet at The Cliff House

The Cliff House Hotel, Ardmore, Co. Waterford

bay

If your diet plan features what they call a ‘treat day’ to provide some sweet relief from the monotony of rice cakes, then it’s only fair that you make the most of it. Afternoon Tea (€35) in The House restaurant at The Cliff House Hotel will do the trick. Start with organic egg mayo sandwiches and corned beef on Waterford Blaa, before filling your face with freshly baked raisin and buttermilk scones with cream, homemade red fruit preserves and lemon curd and white chocolate and lemon tart. 2pm to 5pm on the last Sunday of most months, book an express mani or pedi for €25 to make a day of it.

Search for treasures at Dublin Flea

Sunday, April 26, Newmarket

pics

A bizarre bazaar of vintage clothing, bric-a-brac and what nots, Dublin Flea takes place this Sunday (and on the last Sunday of each month) at the Dublin Food Co-op, Newmarket. Hunt for retro furniture and hidden gems while sipping a heaven-sent coffee and scoffing a toasted sandwich the size of your head. It’s what chill couple time is all about. Serious bargain hunters get there at 11am.

Staying in?

If a night on the sofa with a few beers sounds like your kinda date, stop by Love Supreme in Stoneybatter before 5pm and pick up a pair of their mind-blowing pies to warm up later. There’s a mean Braised Boyne Valley Beef & Smoked Porter, a Four Cheese and (our favourite) a Very Slow Roast Kerry Hill Lamb with Rosemary & Mace. Heaven…
