Hear someone’s story in Cork
Monday, March 9th, 8pm
What’s the Story? is a new storytelling initiative designed to give an outlet for aspiring and established storytellers – people who like to stand up and tell their stories to interested listeners. If you have a story to tell, if you want to learn more about storytelling, or if you just like listening to good stories told well, you’ll love this. It’s not stand-up, it’s not about telling jokes, but humour is welcome. It’s happening at The Roundy and admission is free.
See Still Alice
All week in selected cinemas
Alice Howard is a linguistics professor at Columbia University. She lives in a plush Manhattan apartment with her surgeon husband John and has three adult children. She is happy, healthy and seems to have landed comfortably in mid life, until she begins to forget things. Alice is soon diagnosed with a rare genetic type of Alzheimer disease, the effects of which are devastating for her and for her family. Still Alice is adapted from Lisa Genova’s 2007 bestselling novel and Julianne Moore scooped the Best Actress Oscar this year for her portrayal of the lead. She is ably supported by Alec Baldwin, Kate Bosworth and Kristen Stewart in this most moving of films. For screening times at Dublin’s IFI click here. A panel discussion will be hosted by the IFI and The Alzheimer Society of Ireland on Saturday afternoon.
