Whether your child has their blocks days, weeks, or years, this is very important information to be aware of.

If your child received new building blocks from Santa at Christmas, it’s likely that they haven’t put them down since.

Luckily, they are both fun and educational toys for children as they can enhance their problem-solving abilities, mathematics skills, and language and literacy abilities.

However, one mum has issued somewhat of a warning for other parents after her toddler spilt a cup of coffee into their building blocks.

After the coffee spill, Dawn, who posts on TikTok under the handle @dawno-saur, put the blocks straight into the bathtub to rinse them off with dish soap, only to be met with a shocking realisation.

“POV your toddler spills an entire cup of coffee into their Megablocks bin and now you’re stirring them around in your bathtub realising how dirty they actually are,” the mum wrote on the video.

In the clip, she stirs the submerged blocks in the water, with the water quickly turning black from all of the dirt they have accumulated since they were bought.

“At first I was like “ooh, this is pretty” then I went real quick from that to (sick emoji),” she captioned the TikTok clip.

Since sharing her findings, many other parents have immediately gone and scrubbed theirs clean to avoid dirt and germs coming into contact with their children.

“So happy to know this is now part of cleaning.. my son just got blocks for Christmas,” one user wrote.

“I didn’t need to see this *turns on tub faucet*” another commented.

“When I washed and deep-cleaned all the resources from the previous teacher, everyone around me mocked me. Little do they know how much germs and bacteria settle in these things,” an educator suggested,” a teacher confessed.

“i know right i just did my grandaughters toys was shocked,” a fourth added.

Many users also suggested other ways to throughly clean building blocks.

“I used to put the hard toys in the dishwasher life saver,” one user shared.

“This happened to me. Found out they are dishwasher safe!” another recommended.

“I just put them in the washer on cold light wash out quick wash,” a third user wrote.

“Preschool teacher hack was to buy a clothes bag for the laundry and fill it with the legos and run them through the dishwasher,” one user added.
