This is so clever!

Louise Thompson shares a wealth of helpful parenting tips, tricks, and hacks as she navigates motherhood.

The ‘Made In Chelsea’ alum welcomed her first child – a son named Leo – with her partner, Ryan Libbey, in November 2021.

One of her recent videos saw her son give up his dummy in just one day with the hack, with many parents who have since tried it applauding the social media personality for sharing it.

Over a video on her Instagram account, Louise explains how she came to find this helpful parenting hack.

“Hey guys so I wanted to jump on here to do a really quick and easy video demonstrating how we got rid of the dummy for Leo in one day. It was so simple,” she says.

“It was actually a hack that I got from you guys and I love it when you share all of your parenting tips because often they are just the best.”

The mum then went on to explain that, like many other toddlers, her little one was quite dependent on his dummy.

“So we actually relied on the dummy quite a lot with Leo, for quite a lot of his baby life. I have friends who didn’t use the dummy once, I have friends who only used it for travel and as a sleep cue, but we used it a lot.

“I suppose our circumstances were very different, so needs must, and I don’t feel guilty about it. But there did reach a point in time when I thought, ‘you know what? Actually I think we could do with getting rid of it’.”

Louise admitted that there were a number of reasons that made her eager to do away with the dummy as soon as possible.

“I don’t love how it looks. I also don’t want it to impinge on his speech development and his social skills. I don’t want it to become a crutch or something he’s hiding behind.

“So… how do you get your child to stop using a dummy without a lot of moaning and fuss?” she wrote in the caption.

The One Day Dummy Hack

Louise broke down the method into five easy steps in the post of the video that originally appeared on her TikTok account.

1. Cut the tip off the dummy with scissors
2. Give the dummy to your child
3. They won’t get much satisfaction from sucking air
4. Help them to understand that it has broken
5. Gently encourage them to throw it in the bin THEMSELVES

The TV personality went on to say that, while this hack worked a ‘charm’ for her son, she and her partner still use the dummy in ’emergencies, aka, flights or any other major meltdown moments when P&Q [peace and quiet] feels like a necessity’.

Many users tried and tested the parenting hack and came back to Louise’s video to report their succesful results.

“We did this and it worked amazingly!!! we told her it was broken and they won’t re sell them to us as she’s too old. She did however ask us to use her baby brother to buy one for her when he was born 6m later!!” one happy parent wrote.

“We did this over the space of a week, and it worked really well,” another added.

“Did this with my daughter yesterday and one nap, bedtime and full sleep without it ! Thankyou so much for sharing this ! One happy mama x” a third shared.

“I did exactly the same and it worked a treat for my daughter. Great hack and advice Louise,” another parent wrote.

The mum often uses her platform to open up about her experience of having post-natal depression and PTSD since the birth of her son.
