“Another year further from holding you in my arms”
Ashley Cain has shared a heartbreaking tribute to his late daughter, Azaylia Diamond Cain, to mark the new year.
The TV personality shared his baby girl in August 2020 with his ex-girlfriend, Safiyya Vorajee.
Azaylia was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukaemia at just eight weeks old and sadly passed away in April 2021.
Following her death, the couple split but remained friends and continue to honour their late daughter through ‘The Azaylia Foundation’.
In an Instagram post to mark the start of a new year, Ashley remembered his baby girl, detailing the grief he experiences following her passing.
“Today marks the start of another new year without you.. Another new start still broken by your absence..” he wrote over a video of Azaylia moving up and down in a baby bouncer.
“Another year further from holding you in my arms.. I try my best to be happy, positive, uplifting and optimistic.. But some days are just not meant to be that way and today was one of those days..
“I miss you my little champ with all of my broken heart. Azaylia Diamond Cain – You will forever and always be my endless love.”
The Instagram account for ‘The Azaylia Foundation’ also shared a post of remembrance for Ashley and Safiyya’s late daughter.
“Melt all my heart away, with a smile,” the post reads.
“It will always and forever will be you, their beautiful angel girl, loving them and sharing her light from heaven.
“In this lifetime…in every lifetime you will always be near👼🏼 a little girl who inspired, impacted and captured the hearts from all around the world!
“Proud of everything you did, you are a real champ! We love you.
“AZAYLIA DIAMOND CAIN ~ Forever and Always.”
These touching tributes come following the news that the former footballer is expecting a second child with a woman he has not shared the identity of.
Last month, the reality TV star revealed that he went to Azaylia’s resting place to share the news with her first, which allowed him to find solace and optimism about becoming a father again.
Speaking to The Sun on Sunday, Ashley detailed the moment he found out he was going to be a dad again, and described the mother of his expectant son as ‘a really nice person and good to be around’.
“I got a message saying that she needed to speak to me so I went to see her and she told me she was pregnant, I can’t put into words how that felt,” he told the outlet.
Since Azaylia’s passing, Ashley has kept her memory alive and often speaks out about the grief of losing a child.
He told The Mirror that his daughter’s short life provided him with many lessons and helped him grow as a person.
“The reason also why I still talk about her passing is because I am so grateful that even though now I have lost her, I was blessed to have those eight months with her, and in that time, she taught me so much.
“She changed my life and she continually saves my life. I feel like she gave me a chance at redemption and that she is the person who allowed me to be organically and authentically who I am.”
