A lamp that contains one man’s childhood has over 50,000 likes and almost 40,000 shares on Facebook. It is probably also the most sentimental wedding gift ever.
“This lamp has everything my mom ever found in my pockets when doing laundry for me when I was little. She gave it to me at my wedding,” the Reddit user wrote when posting a photo of the lamp, which is a large glass jar filled with marbles, pencils, stones, a toy car, buttons and other items that a kid in the 1980s is likely to carry in his pockets.
“It started off with mostly sticks, rocks, and marbles. But over time it ended up having all sorts of items ranging from Pogs, a Gameboy game (Super Mario Land), a Magic School Bus McDonald’s toy, yo-yos, and Laser Quest scorecards,” he said.
Looking back, he recalls his mum would put anything she found in his pockets into a glass jar on the top shelf in the laundry room. “I remember as a kid, wishing soooo hard that I could get some of the items back, but was forbidden to even go near the jar. By the time I was old enough to be sneaky about it and get into it, I had just learned to accept that that was how it worked and I wouldn’t get those things back,” he said.
Now the mystery of the glass jar has been revealed, he says, “This has definitely been the best gift I’ve ever received.”
We can see why the picture has so many likes and shares since being posted on Facebook a couple of days ago. It is definitely a very unique (and thoughtful) wedding present.
