‘I find it worrying that it bothers you’

A Dad from Leeds has hit back at trolls who have criticised him for kissing his five-year-old son on the lips.

Tom, who posts videos on TikTok as @tom_leeds, has been questioned much the same as David Beckham has for kissing his daughter, Harper, on the mouth. She is 11.

Tom was responding to a comment via video, complimenting his shiny blue eyes, and asking if he uses a filter on his clips.

Tom says in the video, “I haven’t even got the nicest eyes in my own house”, before inviting his son to join him in the clip so viewers can see his bright blue peepers.

“It’s just not fair”, Tom complained, as his son showed off his eyes.

Tom then says to his boy, “Gimme a kiss” before he plants a peck on his lips.

One person commented: “Just gorgeous both but don’t kiss him on the lips.”

But not everyone shared the sentiment: “Really don’t get why some people find this a problem it’s absolutely adorable.”

Another commenter called it a “beautiful father and son moment”.

“I’m 54 and still kiss both my parents on the lips when I’m saying goodbye after seeing them. Also always say I love you!”, someone else shared.

“Kiss your son on the lips as much as you want. Showing love is never wrong! He’s only young once”, another commented told Tom.

The post prompted more than 1200 comments.

In a follow-up video, Tom addressed the comment that had been made, saying “where to start” and question why the commenter had taken issue with him showing affection to his son.

“That’s what she finds worrying. I find it worrying that it bothers you. I was kiss my son, my five-year-old son on the lips, as long as I deem necessary and as long as he lets me, right, because I love him to bits and he’s my best pal.”

Tom continued: “And one day he won’t want me to, and he probably won’t want much to do with me, so for now, I’ll carry on as I am.”

That video has been viewed almost 300,000 times.

Tom also responding to two other comments. One suggested Tom could make his son more susceptible to cavities “if you have them and kiss him”. The other suggested he should stop the practice because “not all humans have the right intentions” and he shouldn’t “make it acceptable”.
