Dad’s zany photos turn him into a viral superstar

Katie Mythen-Lynch

It started as a joke, a bit of fun to break the stress of early parenthood. But one dad’s dark sense of humour has won him a slew of fans all over the world.

Dave Engledow started taking funny photos illustrating his lack of parenting nous four years ago, when his daughter Alice Bee was born. His first image, in which he is holding Alice like a football and squirting breast milk into his ‘World’s Best Father’ coffee mug, quickly went viral. In fact, it was so well received that he has since produced a number of calendars and a book, as well as regularly updating his Tumblr with fun pictures of Alice and the family for fans in every part of the world.

Since then, Dave’s heavily edited photo shoots have become more and more detailed, sometimes taking up to 20 hours to get right.

‘When I first started, the idea was that I just kind of wanted to make fun of myself because I was feeling incredibly exhausted and sleep-deprived,’ Engledow told BuzzFeed.

‘I think early on in the series a lot of the photos were me kind of playing out things that I was afraid of as a father.’
