Alison Davis is the creative caterer behind the stylish bites at some of Ireland’s hottest parties. The chef, who trained in South Africa, lives in Dublin with her partner Alan Lord and their nine-week-old baby boy, Sonny. For more on her business, visit Ali Davis Food.
I wake up at 6.30am. Our eight-week old loves listening to music so we’ll have Spotify on in the background at breakfast time while quickly making a double shot Nespresso and eating a yoghurt on the go!
I spend a maximum of 20 minutes on myself in the morning. I love the Trilogy products – I cleanse, tone and moisturise at night and tone and moisturise in the morning and I can’t live without my foundation Le Teint Touche Éclat from YSL.
Heaven is a trip to our local coffee shop Urbun at the weekend for breakfast. They serve the best coffee in Dublin and their creamy scrambled eggs are to die for!
Because I work in the food industry it thankfully tends to be 50:50 at home when it comes to the cooking! I try to work normal office hours at the beginning of the week but as the week goes on, work often goes on late into the night when we’re on-site at an event. If I have an evening off I like nothing better than to stay at home and relax with my family.
My Mum minds our little baby boy so myself and my partner do the drops and collections to my parents house.
At the weekend we love to walk the pier in Dun Laoghaire and go to the farmers market in the People’s Park to get a yummy sourdough pizza from Dave’s Wood Fire Pizza
My favourite holiday destination at home would have to be Kerry. Abroad it’s Cape Town where I studied to become a chef.
The last book I read was Blood, Bones & Butter by Gabrielle Hamilton. I really enjoyed it, it gives you a good idea of how tough the food and service industry is. It also reminds you that if you have the passion you’ll never leave it!
The best piece of advice I’ve ever received is don’t sweat the small stuff! We can often waste emotion on futile things. My advice to anyone with a new baby is to try and be organised! Although there are days when everything can go wrong overall I find if I have my ducks in a row it can make things easier.
