He arrived into the world on Thursday – and now the name of Sweden’s latest royal addition has been announced.
Step forward the Duke of Dalarna – aka little Gabriel Carl Walther.
Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia of Sweden are Gabriel’s proud parents – but in keeping with royal tradition, it was Carl Philip’s father King Carl XVI Gustaf who revealed his new grandson’s name and title at a cabinet meeting on Monday morning.
There was also a Te Deum thanksgiving service held afterwards at the royal chapel.
And we reckon Gabriel will be a seriously hot name for 2017 and 2018 as a result. In Ireland, the name hasn’t appeared in our top 100 names for boys in the last few years – although around 40 newborns a year are still registered as such.
Last week, a statement from the palace had confirmed: “The Office of The Marshal of the Realm is delighted to announce that on Thursday 31st August at 11.24am HRH Princess Sofia gave birth to a healthy baby at Danderyd Hospital.
“Both mother and child are doing well.”
Carl Philip said in the aftermath: “It feels great, pure joy! He seems to be a very charming little boy and Sofia is a wonderful mum. It’s overwhelming.”
