Father Shares Emotional Video About Down Syndrome

HerFamily

A father has recorded a touching video message about how Down syndrome is the best thing that has ever happened to his life.

Robb Scott from Canada decided to speak out about how he felt that he had recently “failed” his son Turner who has Down syndrome.

He was at a video store when he overheard a conversation between another father and his son. The boy asked his dad about the condition and the father said that it was “an illness of not knowing anything.”

Scott decided not to speak up at that moment and explain what it actually is. He revealed: “I failed him in that moment.”

This is important for me to say. Excuse my emotion.Kelly Macintosh-Scott.

The emotional father went on to explain: “Down syndrome is literally one of the most beautiful things that’s ever happened to my life.

“It’s fun. It’s brilliant. It’s amazing. It’s funny. It’s kind. It’s loving. It’s cuddly… They’re great teachers, people with Down syndrome. It’s not an illness. It’s not even a disability.”

Posting this one pic of my sons so people can see who the video was about. For those new to my page who’ve been a little…

He finished by saying: “A well-educated man does not have more to teach than my son…. His knowledge is not more valuable.

“Down syndrome is the best thing that ever happened to me but I didn’t say that. I didn’t step up for my son and other people with Down syndrome and that was devastating to me in that moment.

“So I just wanted to write that publicly for myself. Thank you.”

We recently chatted to a mother who described what it was like when she found out her baby girl had Down syndrome. You can find out more information about Down syndrome at the Down Syndrome Ireland website here.
