They're small robot monkeys that sit on your child's finger and carry out a number of actions. Think of them as the smaller, slightly cuter (and cheaper) version of the Furby, a classic kids' toy craze from Christmases of yore.
"Fingerlings respond to sound, motion and touch and will let you know when they like what you are doing!" claims the product description.
They retail in Ireland for €19.99 each, which isn't too bad, but there's a key marketing ploy behind Fingerlings.
They interact with one another and are collectible, meaning parents aren't likely to get peace until they've bought at least a few for their little ones. Genius.
Reports (here, here and here) are already suggesting that these will be the Hatchimals of this Christmas, so you might want to find out if your child is interested in them sooner rather than later.
