Some people wear tracksuit bottoms and a t-shirt for the school run whilst others opt for jeans and a jumper – it all depends on how you’re feeling and what you’re doing.
Which is why we doubt that singer/actress Hilary Duff expected to cause such a debate when she shared a snap of her school drop-off outfit on Instagram.
She posted the below picture and wrote: “Hey moms! I came up wth a semi cute outfit for school drop off! I usually roll in sweat pants or lulu lemons and look like a disaster but this morning I managed to throw something cute together and I thought would share.
“Cut offs or jeans. A light weight trench over a sweater or tee, cross body bag sneaks or booties and a pair of Sunnies! [sic].”
While many of her fans showed their appreciation for her attire, others weren’t so taken with her choice.
One wrote: “I have two grown kids …thank gawd I didn’t spend my life and their youth focused on selfies and outfits to impress people I don’t even like. Today’s moms of little ones need to get the f**k of the internet and actually raise their kids instead of self promotion [sic].”
Another said: “You call this cute?!? A lady of class and substance wouldn’t be caught wearing this even in her worst hair day… [sic].”
This sentiment was echoed by another person who commented: “I would be humiliated if my mom showed up to pick me up in booty shorts. Those look like freaking underwear.”
Thankfully, Hilary’s fans stood up for her and criticised the haters. One hit back with: “You shouldn’t shame a mother for what she wears. You’re not paying her bills. You’re not buying her clothes.”
Another (quite rightly) argued: “I love the outfit!! As women we should empower, not insult. What is wrong with us? We need to move forward.”
Hilary is mum to four-year-old Luca, her son from her marriage to Mike Comrie. The pair are now separated but have remained on good terms.
