Juggling act: This new mum took her 9-week-old baby to work with her

The baby slept soundly in a baby carrier throughout the interview

Television viewers got an insight into a working mum’s juggling act recently when Rebecca Traister, the senior editor at The New Republic and a book author, took time out of her maternity leave to appear in a TV interview to discuss the Hillary Clinton email scandal on MSNBC; all whilst cradling her 9-week-old daughter, Bella.

But it wasn’t the new mum taking her baby to work that impressed us the most, nor Bella sleeping soundly throughout the entire interview; it was the fact that the baby’s presence wasn’t a big deal for anyone that perhaps made the biggest impact when we watched the clip.

Apart from a quick comment by host, Chris Hayes at the start of the interview — “Rebecca, also in the midst of clearly having it all with her new daughter, Bella, by her side” — things ran as they probably would have done if there wasn’t a baby in the picture. While we realise that this situation isn’t a reality for most working mums, we salute Rebecca (and her coolness). Although, it wouldn’t be quite so easy with an older baby or toddler, so we imagine this won’t be a regular occurrence for Rebecca and Bella.
