In the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal and the numerous upsetting stories we’re hearing a lot of lately, it’s no surprise parents, including Kelly Clarkson, feel the need to have a DMC with the little ones.
The 35-year-old singer has four children – the youngest being 3-year-old River Rose and 18-month-old Remington Alexander – and her husband’s two kids, Seth and Savannah.
It’s clear Kelly wants her little ones to know that if something feels wrong than that means it is, and no one should have any qualms or feel discouraged about speaking out.
While chatting to PEOPLE at Variety’s Power of Women event, Kelly said;
“I said, ‘You tell mommy if somebody does anything inappropriate. You stand up for yourself.
“Even from a young age, I think you should instil that people, your children, should always stand up for themselves or speak out when something is wrong… Not only for them… but maybe somebody in the class who you notice.”
She put particular emphasis on how important it is to encourage this kind of mindset in our kids from a super young age, as (perhaps unfortunately) it’s never too early to be aware.
“I think if we start it at that young age, and you start moulding people and growing to these very elevated individuals that help elevate society. It’s a really crucial time when you have children right now.”
