Make cute storage containers from empty jam jars

Trine Jensen-Burke

If you have children, you more than likely have a lot of STUFF.

It never stops to amaze me just how many loom-bands, hair clips, plastic pearls, pebbles, treasures, Barbie shoes and small Kinder Egg toys that float about on the various surfaces in our house.

But if you find yourself with some empty jam jars, a glue gun and some spray paint on your hands, you can do what one of our sweet readers did, and make your very personal and super-cute little storage containers – a perfect activity for those rainy autumn afternoons!

This is what you need:

Empty and clean glass jars with lids

Some sort of small toy/plastic animal/car to put on top as decor

A glue gun (or just super-glue will do just fine)

Spray paint in the colour of your choice

Here is how you do it:

Glue the decor toys onto the lid of the jars (make sure you double-check with kids that this toy can become decor, and that they are not especially attached to that giraffe/car/pony – just to avoid any disasters once the glue has kicked in!).

Wait until the glue is dry, then cover your table/decking/bathroom floor with some old plastic bags before you spray paint the lids, making sure everything gets paint covered.

Note; you might have to repeat the process once the first layer of paint has dried to get an even finish. The jars in the pictures here were sprayed three times.

Now; who is ready for tidy-up time?!
