‘Did you mean to have that many?’ -The questions that frustrate so many parents

Melissa Carton

‘Did you really just ask me that?’

When it comes to parenting there is a lot of joy but it also comes with a lot of very frustrating questions and remarks.

One thing, in particular, that seems to bring this out in people is the number of children you decide to have.

I’m not really sure why people seem to think it’s any of their business how few or many children a couple decide to have but it’s very frustrating.

There can be any number of reasons why a family is as large or small as it is and it can bring up some sensitive feelings for couples.

Recently I came across a post that sums this up brilliantly and all couples will understand.

I have two children, one girl and one boy, but when I had only my son I got asked if I was trying for a girl a lot.

When I did have my daughter people would say to me ‘oh you finally got your girl’ which really annoyed me.

It implied that I wasn’t happy being a boy mum or that if I’d had another son I would have been disappointed.

Have you ever had these things said to you?
