Mum calls ambulance for the ‘silliest reason’… and she’s certainly not alone

Olivia Hayes

We’ve all been there…

A pregnant mum has taken to Mumsnet after she called an ambulance thinking the worst. And we get it, you panic. You don’t know what to do. You’re alone and think the best thing to do is call a professional for help.

And while yes, the reason was embarrassing, she was certainly not alone.

The user said:

“Currently 30 weeks pregnant I was eating a pear and started throwing up constantly and cramping. Had DS with me curled up on the floor because the pain was so bad.

“Called OH to make his way back. Ambulance got here and said it’s indigestion. Now I feel like a complete idiot.

“Anything like this happened to anyone else? I feel bloody awful.”

And the replies came rolling in:

“Don’t feel bad. I did just the same the other week – stupidly let myself get dehydrated then had a big cold drink that caused massive acid reflux. Have never known pain like it (and I’ve given birth twice) and was home alone with the kids. My 9 year old called an ambulance for me and the paramedics were ever so reassuring that I’d done the right thing.”

Another mum said:

“It wasn’t silly at the time but my then 2 year old woke up with croup and was crawling around the bed gasping for breath and couldn’t seem to catch his breath at all. I called an ambulance which arrived mega quick, within about 10m. Needless to say by the time they arrived ds was running around shouting ‘BUM’ very loudly while I spoke to the lovely ambulance men and tried to convince them that he’d given all the signs of not being able to breathe just a few minutes ago….”
