“Nevertheless, she persisted” – The powerful image that ALL mums will relate to

Amanda Cassidy

It became the battlecry for acts of support for women.

And now a mum in California has created a powerful image of this feminist statement.

It all started in early February when the US senate had to consider a nomination for the US attorney.

Senator Elizabeth Warren tried to read a letter written that condemned the nomination of Jeff Sessions but was shouted down. Later the battle was described as “she was warned. She was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted”

“Nevertheless, she persisted” has now become a rallying cry in the form of hashtag’s, tattoos and other acts of support for women – initially in the US and now worldwide.

Now artist, Courtney Privett has created a ‘mum version’ of the powerful movement.

It includes word bubbles that include some of the negative chatter women have to deal with when you become a mum:

“You’re letting her eat that?!” and “You shouldn’t have time to be depressed.”

“Don’t you miss being home with the baby?” and “Don’t you miss working?” and “just let him cry it out”

The artist told the Huffington Post that mums have to contend with these types of questions everyday and there is a sense of weariness that we have to battle on through.

“I felt disconnected from everything and had trouble working through the steps necessary to do even simple things like change a diaper or make a sandwich. I’m hoping to encourage parents that it’s OK to do what is right for their specific situations, and also for all people to be more aware of how they speak to others,” she said. “Words matter, especially when directed toward vulnerable people.”

Did you ever feel this way?  We would love to hear your comments.
