NEWS: After-school childcare plans could be good news for working parents

The scheme would provide low-cost care in the evenings

Working parents who face childcare costs could benefit from a new plan by the Government for an after-school care scheme. Under the proposals, primary schools would be kept open for an extra two hours in the evening, to allow supervised play and homework clubs, according to the Irish Independent.

Expected to form part of the pay talks with teacher unions later this year, the scheme would need backing from principals, teachers, management and parents groups.

The move could be good news for working parents, as it would allow them to save money on childcare and work extra hours if they need to, without worrying about school hours.
