“No five year old should be waxing their eyebrows”: Father’s disgust after wife waxes daughter’s unibrow

Kat O'Connor

“At just five years old my daughter already thinks she is ugly.”

There is far too much pressure placed on women to look a certain way. It’s something that has haunted most of us from a young age. You must be skinny. You must be pretty. You must have flawless skin.

The expectation placed on women by society is far too intense and the impact it can have on younger generations is a growing concern.

One father has expressed his anger after his wife waxed their daughter’s unibrow. He believed she was only adding to the beauty norms we’re forced to live by.

The mum explained that her daughter was being bullied over her appearance and felt like it was the best solution, however, we’re not entirely sure we agree.

She explained to Reddit that her daughter’s cousin had started teasing her and bullying her over her eyebrows.

“At just five years old my daughter already thinks she is ugly. It breaks my heart because nobody (let alone a five-year-old) should think they are ugly. I reassure my daughter she is beautiful and not to listen to her cousins, but my daughter still believes she is ugly.”

She explained that she was worried the bullying would intensify when her daughter started kindergarten. She believed the only option was to wax them.

“I didn’t shape them or anything just waxed the middle off to get rid of her unibrow.”

However, when the girl’s father noticed what she had done he was livid.

“In front of her he called her beautiful but after she left we had a huge fight.”

The dad argued that their daughter was far too young to have her brow waxed and said she isn’t old enough to make these decisions. She should have waited until she was older.

“He said it was horrible of me to be subjecting my five-year-old daughter to beauty standards. And that at such a young age I’m pushing it on her, instead of telling her she is beautiful the way she is.”

“No five-year-old should be waxing their eyebrows,” the dad said. He also believed the mum was “pushing the mentality that she is only beautiful without her unibrow.”

Do you think the mum was right to wax her daughter’s unibrow? Or should she have waited until her daughter was old enough to make the decision for herself?
