Struggling to connect with your teen? Watch telly together...

Many parents are at a loss as to how to connect with their teen, but it turns out there is an answer... The answer is telly. Course it is.

A survey carried out on behalf of Netflix has revealed that 80 percent of parents watch shows like ArrowPretty Little Liars and Stranger Things just to feel closer to their teenager. And it's not just one-sided, with three quarters of teens saying they're interested in talking to their parents about the shows they watch and both sides (89 percent of parents, 70 percent of teens) seeing it as a strong way to bond.

While 56 percent of parents admitted finding it tough to talk to their teens, nearly all parents (93 percent) around the world feel that watching their TV shows will give them more to talk about and 78 percent of teenagers agree.

When it comes to tough topics (such as sex, bullying and stress), parents (79 percent) and teens (65 percent) agree that watching the same shows could help start an otherwise awkward conversation.

71 percent of teenagers even reckon that the content found in shows like Arrow, Breaking Bad, Daredevil, Friends, Grey’s Anatomy and Orange is the New Black helps their parents better relate to them.
