The research, conducted by the University of Illinois and led by Brian Ogolsky, looked at how couples interact over a nine-month period. (We’re glad we weren't involved otherwise there could have been some raised eyebrows.)
During the experiment, four patterns emerged: dramatic couples (lots of ups and downs); conflict-ridden couples (plenty of arguments); partner-focused couples (they spend lots of time together); and socially-involved couples (who have numerous interactions with others).
The ones who were most likely to split and thus least likely to say ‘I do’ were the dramatic pairs (they made up 34% of couples).

As for those who are set to spend the rest of their lives together, they were the partner-focused couples (who made up 30% of people).
The bottom line was that stability is key to the longevity of a relationship. Those who have ups and downs are more likely to call it quits.
While that’s not exactly rocket science, we do like that there is evidence to suggest that himself should spend more time at home with us.
Also, if he doesn’t, we could turn into one of those dramatic couples!Explore more on these topics:
