When it comes to toddlers and their proneness to throw tantrums when you least want them to, we have all been there, I think.
I know I sure have. As have every mum friend I know. Heck, even Kim Kardashian herself had to live it down when little North West threw a giant scream-the-house-down tantrum on front-row at fashion week – right next to bloody Anna Wintour.
The horror.
Anyway, the thing is, if you have ever
had to deal with a tantrum throwing child or toddler, you will probably be aware just how hard it can be (read: impossible) to get them to snap out of it.
And kids are funny like that (and by funny I mean a**holes) in that they don't give a toss about all this howling happening while you are lining up to pay in Tesco (and everyone stares at you like you on purpose made them screech like that) or in the middle of Grafton Street and everyone has to side-step you as they swear under their breath they are never going to have kids if this is what it is like.
However, I am incredibly eager to try what
this clever woman suggested – and getting others to do the dirty work for me. After all; they
do say it takes a village...
After witnessing a mum suffering through her child’s scream-fest while attempting to finish her grocery shopping, a clever woman came up with a great way to leverage the parenting community to help each other out. Her post was then shared on
Facebook two years ago but has only recently gone viral – and for good reason, we think.
Here is her clever idea for how parents can help each other out with tantrum-throwing toddlers:
“There should be a secret signal parents give when they can’t take anymore so a random stranger can mean mug the kid and tell it to shut up.”
Her reasons for letting others intervene when you can't get your child to snap out of a tantrum were pretty interesting too:
1. It will shock the tantrum-throwing child into silence.
2. It will reinforce stranger danger.
3. It will show them, from an early age, that while your parents love you and put up with your shit the rest of the world doesn't care about you (or your feeling), no matter how cute you are.
