Weekend plans sorted: Five fab family events you should go to

It's time for a little adventure.

HerFamily

Brought to you by Cadbury Dairy Milk Buttons.

The art of travelling with children is in itself in-car entertainment.

It doesn’t matter whether it’s a screen or a game of moving I-Spy (the rules of which tend to be fluid when you’re in motion); you just need to stop them from killing each other in the back.

Stop often for a stretch of the legs and to peel your little monkeys off one another. Sing loudly while they complain about who’s breathing on them.

Welcome to your incredible shared moments of joy – in association with Cadbury Dairy Milk Buttons.

1) Féile Brian Ború, Co Clare: June 29 – July 2

County Clare is celebrating the legacy of its most famous son Brian Ború, with a weekend of historical guided tours on land and lake. A firework display over the River Shannon will light up the night sky with explosions of colour once the sun sets on street games and theatre; garden parties, art competitions and more. Bring the family to share the excitement and commemorate the life of the founder of the O’Brien Clan.

2) Seafest Galway June 30 – July 2

Galway Harbour will be dotted with ships for this maritime festival, with magnificent tall ship the Phoenix amidst a flotilla of boats. Featuring tons of educational activities and events for kids to discover the mysteries of the ocean, the festival also hosts some of the world’s best fly boarders performing aerial acrobatics. Fish cookery demos; on board ship tours and loads of family-friendly events means the 60,000 visitors to Galway can look forward to the festival making a big splash this year.

3) Promenade Festival, Tramore, Waterford: July 1 and 2

The Promenade Festival is a big draw first the first weekend in July. The plan is to feature an air show, street entertainers; international artists, wrestling, puppet shows and an artisanal food and drink village.

4) Ennis Street Festival, Clare: July 3 – July 9

Bustling market town always has something going on, and this July it’s the place to take the family for a week of fun. Celebrating the variety of cultures and art in the area, the festival offers a colourful mix of visual art, music and dance; acrobatics, puppet shows and promises a few surprises to entertain everyone in the family.

5) Wexford Maritime Festival: June 30 – July 2

The sunny south-east celebrates its rich maritime heritage with a party. Artisan food and music; dance; arts and crafts and more are laid on to entertain the whole family for this weekend of fun in Wexford. Kids will get a kick out of the science workshops. There’s even a circus workshop for those with ringmaster aspirations! Alternatively, they can get in touch with their inner warrior at the Viking tent with a bit of brass-rubbing and sword-making.
