What makes a mother decide to pierce her newborn’s ears?

The video that has sparked a furious debate.

This has sparked a major debate.

Rebekah Musson has defended her decision to pierce her four-month-old daughter’s ears after other parents criticised her choice.

The mother of two from Hull said that Kayleigh only cried for a split second during the process and she has no regrets about her decision.

According to The Hull Daily Mail, 23-year-old Rebekah decided to speak out after a video, which you can see here, of a baby having her ears pierced went viral and other parents had strong opinions on the clip.

One mother said it made her cry, another commented that the baby was in great distress and the response to the video, posted on the Piercings. Facebook page, was overwhelmingly negative.

Rebekah has defended her decision in a conversation with the publication, saying that Madison is now two years old and she loves her earrings.

“She’s now two-and-a-half and has her own little jewellery box like mummy with lots of earrings in.

“How that could be described as child abuse I have no idea. It hurt her for but a second and it really was that. She didn’t cry like the baby in the video. That was a bit extreme”.

One parent suggested that the age for children getting their ears pierced should be raised to three in the UK while others said that they themselves had their ears pierced as children and it didn’t do them any harm.

The debate continues…
