Expecting a Valentine’s baby? Here are the top names associated with the day

A new study by PlayFame, using Social Security Administration data, has revealed that Violet and David top the list of love-inspired names. 

For girls, Violet takes the crown with 6,342 babies given the name last year. Associated with the delicate purple flower that symbolises love and faithfulness.

Right behind is Scarlett, with 6,288 babies named after the bold red colour linked to passion and romance. Lily is in third, inspired by the classic flower often associated with Valentine’s Day.

Layla follows, a name rooted in Arabic that is linked to the famous tale of Layla and Majnun, a story of undying love. 

Rounding out the top five is Valentina, with 4,075 babies receiving this name that directly connects to the holiday’s namesake, St. Valentine. 

Among the boys, David leads the way as the most popular love-related name, with 7,345 newborns given the name last year. 

Meaning “beloved” in Hebrew, it’s a classic name that perfectly reflects the theme of affection. 

Rowan takes the next spot, bringing to mind the rowan tree, which symbolises love and protection.

Rhett, chosen for 2,183 babies, is strongly associated with Rhett Butler from Gone with the Wind.

In fourth place is Adonis, a name steeped in Greek mythology and linked to beauty and love, thanks to its connection to the goddess Aphrodite. 
Finally, Tristan rounds out the list, a name that carries the weight of romance and tragedy from the legendary tale of Tristan and Isolde.
