‘I regret the baby name I gave my son and feel like people are judging me’

Is the name of her son really that bad?

There are many baby names we’re never going to like but what should you do when you regret the name you gave your own son?

One mum is experiencing that very struggle after admitting she regrets the name she gave her son.

Writing on Reddit, the mum explained that her son is now one and a half years old but she is doubting his name.

“My son is 1.5 years old. When he was born, we convinced ourselves that a really unique name was the right choice for a variety of reasons. But I began doubting the choice a few weeks later and it’s been eating at me ever since. His name is Oberon.”

She said her partner still loves the name but they typically call him O.B. or Bear.

“We live in a part of the United States where offbeat names are very common, and no one has said anything negative.

“His older brother also has a very rare name (Pascal) which feels like a perfect fit and I have never regretted it for an instant,” she shared.

“But despite all that, I still feel like we took it too far and like everyone must be secretly judging our weird name choice whenever I tell it to anyone.”

The mum is unsure if her son’s name actually is bad or if she’s just overthinking their decision.

Many people reassured her and said she should go easy on herself.

One wrote, “I think you’re overthinking. It’s not THAT out there, especially if you’re in an area with lots of uncommon names.”

Another added, “I think Oberon is definitely unusual, but not crazy.”

One added, “I found it particularly strange. And no, I’m not a fan of Shakespeare, so it’s a very exotic name to me. First time I’ve seen it.”

Another wrote, “I’m a teacher, and I’ve seen my fair share of interesting names. I much prefer that to having (literally) 8 Haydens in one grade of 103 kids.”

What do you think of the name this mum gave her son?
