I got talking to one of the other mums from my son’s pre-school recently when we found ourselves at the same local swimming pool (which didn’t end well for other reasons, more about that here!)
I mentioned that Jacob was keen to have all his pals over to our house for a little party soon.
His birthday isn’t coming up or anything, he just really loves his classmates and evidently, loves to party too.
‘Well he didn’t lick that off a stone’ she joked.
And I wholeheartedly agree – I LOVE to throw a little party or get-together, even though after most of the ones we have at our house, I am found exhausted and wailing on the couch that I will never, ever do it again.
(But secretly I know I will).
So whenever an opportunity arises to throw a baby shower for a friend who is expecting, I jump at the chance. Seriously, what’s not to love – the element of surprise, chatting about the plans for the new arrival and most importantly, lots of cake!

Sometimes, it’s just good for you to do something nice for another human being. Simples.

If you have kids yourself, it’s nice to organise a little girlie get-together for lunch or tea in a place where it’s grown-ups only. So it’s a present for her AND a present for you!

Hoping you might be in line for godmother duties? Throwing a baby shower will do that likelihood no harm whatsoever ;o)
4. Goodie Bags
If you organise a cake and some grub, you will probably have lots of yummy leftovers that you can bring home and scoff while you’re patting yourself on the back for being so, so lovely.
5. Meeting Other Great Women
Organising a party for someone else means getting the numbers or email addresses for the pregnant lady’s sisters and friends, some of whom you may not have met before. Who has enough friends in their lives? That’s right, nobody. It’s always great to meet new people.
