The Thistlethwaites girls' condition, where babies share amniotic sac and placenta, is known as monoamnioitic, and is according to the doctors the rarest form of multiple pregnancies.
When mum Sarah Thistlewhite was pregnant with her girls, she was told this condition could lead to complications and was put on bed rest for the last 2,5 months of her pregnancy. But despite doubts for their survival, the sisters were born strong – and with their hands clasped together.
"They’re already best friends," the proud mum told a local newspaper after the birth. "I can’t believe they were holding hands. That’s amazing."
The twins had to stay in hospital for two months after their unique delivery, but were then allowed go home to their delighted parents and big brother.
