Welcome to week 38 of your pregnancy! This week, your baby is as big as a winter melon. Here’s what else you can expect during week 38.
You
Week 38. The countdown is really on and the wait is nearly over, and while you’re probably excited to meet your little one, discomfort might be at an all-time high. Swollen feet, backache, and frequent trips to the loo – it’s all part of the package. Keep those feet up when you can, and try gentle stretches to ease the aches. Try to stay relaxed, keep up with your prenatal appointments, and make sure your hospital bag is ready to grab.
Your baby
Your baby is getting plumper by the day, weighing in at around 3 kilograms and measuring about 50 centimetres. Most of their systems are fully developed, and they’re making their final preparations for life outside the womb. Their lungs are producing surfactant, a substance that helps them breathe, and their digestive system is gearing up to process milk. While their organs are ready, every day in the womb is valuable for growth and development.
Anything else?
Remember to keep monitoring your baby’s movements and contact your healthcare provider if you notice any significant changes. Try to relax and enjoy these last moments of being pregnant. It won’t be long before you’re holding your baby in your arms, and this challenging but remarkable journey will all be worth it.
