Here are my tips on how to create the perfect personalised baby box

Melissa Carton

Baby boxes are a huge trend at the moment.

The Scandinavian inspired sensation has been sweeping Ireland, with more and more companies offering boxes in every shape and style possible.

I love the idea of baby boxes but often times the contents are all baby and nothing for mum.

After having two kids myself believe me when I say after contractions and labour, mum needs a treat!

This is why when I had a relative due to give birth I decided to make my very own personalised baby box for her and it was so easy.

To start off the contents of my box included:

For baby

One pack of newborn nappies

Baby bath wash

Nappy cream

Baby lotion

2 x H&M baby grows

Warm hat for going home

3 packs of baby socks

2 x Lupilu baby grows

Discount coupons

For mum

Body wash

Moisturiser

Eyeshadow palette

Nail polish

Mascara

Large chocolate bar

While I’m happy with the box I assembled, I’ve had my own daughter since and would definitely add a couple of extra things in for the mum including – slipper socks, a shower cap, flip-flops, a power bank and an eyemask.

The chocolate in my box was especially appreciated as my cousin had asked her husband to pick her up some but in the flurry of phone calls he was answering from relatives, he forgot.

I decorated a baby box I had from Lidl which I had been storing clothes in but for anyone else thinking of making one for a friend or family member I would recommend checking out the selection of gift boxes at Sostrene Grene.

There was one extra little personal touch that I put in the box I gave her and it was particularly special to me.

The day my cousin told me she was pregnant we were at a wedding fair and we each got goodie bags.

In mine was a little perfume sample called Iris. My cousin had said if the baby was a girl she was going to call her Iris so I kept it in my drawer to give to her if she had a daughter, which she did.

I’ve always loved giving gifts, especially lots of little prezzies I know the receiver will love so baby boxes are right up my alley and I could seriously go into business I love making them up so much!

If you know a mum-to-be I would highly recommend making her a personalised baby box. Trust me, she will absolutely love it.
