79% of parents admit that teachers are more patient than them

As the saying goes, patience is a virtue, and according to new research parents believe their children’s teachers have that quality in abundance. According to 79 per cent of parents in Ireland, teachers are more patient with their children than them. Of parents polled, 40 per cent say they followed a specific career path due to the influence of a teacher and almost a third (32 per cent) said their teachers helped them navigate difficult scenarios growing up. Perhaps it is no surprise then that a staggering 88 per cent of parents had a favourite teacher. Teachers have played a key role in developing so many parents that over half (57 per cent) keep in touch with their favourite, even if 60 per cent still address them as Miss or Sir when they run into them today! The One4all research also reveals that 81 per cent of teachers say their own educators influenced them to follow their career path and over half (54 per cent) say they mirror the style of their own teachers. This might just be why some parents can hear their child reciting the same things they learned years ago. The survey was carried out by One4all ahead of the end of the school year to shine a spotlight on the support teachers nationwide give to students and their parents. One4all asked 437 parents to reflect on their own days in school as well as the impact teachers had on them and questioned 798 teachers about what inspired them to choose their career path.
