What a great initiative!
We are surrounded by heroes these days – doctors, nurses, cleaners, postmen, grocery store staff – all working tirelessly to keep the rest of us safe, fed and able to go about our day.
And right now, Uniphar’s Life and Allcare Pharmacies want to honour all these everyday heroes, and are asking children and teens to submit paintings based on the hero in their lives.

Draw Our Heroes’ art competition is looking for budding young artists across Ireland to put an original portrait onto paper, showing who THEIR everyday hero is right now.
This hero could be their dad, who is a garda. Or an aunt who is a nurse. Or their neighbour, who works as a hospital cleaner. Or even their granny, who is staying home to keep all of us safe. In other words, the competition aims to recognise and celebrate the many different professions and people who are bravely working to bring us all safely through the pandemic.
Here is what the organisers are saying about the competition:
"We are calling on all young people up to and including 18 years of age to draw a picture of their real-life hero in this difficult time of the Corona Virus.
Your hero could be a doctor, nurse, pharmacist, ambulance service, gardai, fire service, army, An Post, shop assistant, van driver, Leo Varadkar, Simon Harris, Dr. Tony Holohan, your granny cocooning – in fact, anyone who is playing their part to keep us all safe."
To make their artwork, children can use paints or draw with pencils or use anything you like once it’s on an A4 page.
How to enter
The competition is open to all children and teens up to 18 years of age. Entries should be original, unaided, and must be submitted by 30

The drawings will initially be placed online, and a public exhibition is planned for later in the year as a permanent tribute to the heroic efforts of thousands of our citizens throughout the pandemic.
A prize pool of just under €5000 will be awarded to the top 12 entries across four age categories. Their hero subjects will also receive a matched prize.
The competition is open to any person up to and including 18 years of age.
