Mum accused of trying to 'steal' other woman's boyfriend by breastfeeding in public

“Associating breastfeeding with sex or perversion is disturbing.”

A photographer from the US has hit back after being accused of trying to ‘steal’ another woman’s boyfriend by breastfeeding her young daughter on a plane.

Reka Nyare was travelling between New York City and Budapest in Hungary with her almost two-year-old daughter Ilo.

A woman sitting with her boyfriend ahead of Reka in the plane turned to her while she was feeding the little girl and launched a torrent of abuse at her.

“She called me ‘disgusting’ followed by a litany of degrading swear words,” Reka told The Sun.

“Apparently she thought I was trying to steal her man by quietly breastfeeding my baby during the landing of the plane.

“Breastfeeding is natural, and our breasts were made for feeding our babies. Associating breastfeeding with sex or perversion is disturbing.”

Reka regularly shares images of herself feeding her daughter on Instagram, where she has over 38,000 followers, in a bid to help normalise breastfeeding.

She said that she resents some people’s attitudes to breastfeeding.

“It has been irritating how judgemental people can be about women who breastfeed and how sexualised the breast and nipple have become.”

It’s something we’ve made great strides in normalising in recent years but stories like this remind us that we still have a long way to go.
