‘No one talks about the recovery’ Ashley Graham opens up about postpartum healing

Melissa Carton

This is so relatable.

So much of becoming a mother is focused on the pregnancy, but once your baby is born, people tend to concentrate on your little bundle of joy.

The priority is of course the baby but mothers shouldn’t be forgotten about, especially when their bodies have been through so much.

Pregnancy and childbirth can take their toll on your body and I personally found that I really wasn’t prepared for it.

No one told me that my baby bump would be there for days after the birth. No one told me I would need to wear adult nappies because you bleed for days after the birth. No one told me a lot of things that I needed to hear and in fact a lot of new mums need to hear.

Ashley Graham recently took to Instagram to write about her own experience of postpartum healing and honestly it’s refreshingly real.

The supermodel and mum posted to social media during the week to say that we need to start talking about postpartum recovery;

“Raise your hand if you didn’t know you’d be changing your own diapers too. After all these years in fashion I never could’ve guessed that disposable underwear would be my favorite piece of clothing but here we are!

No one talks about the recovery and healing (yes even the messy parts) new moms go through. I wanted to show you guys that it’s not all rainbows and butterflies! It’s been tough, but my friend Chelsea @cmrh and ceo at @fridamom is making waves and starting honest conversations.

It’s unbelievable the obstacles we still face talking about what women really go through. All their stuff she sent me has been a life saver.”

I think it’s brilliant that celebrity mums with a large following are using their platform to help mums realise that what they are going through is completely normal and that they are not alone.
