Planning on babywearing? You need to know about these crazy beautiful baby wraps

Trine Jensen-Burke

Both my babies were of the “I want to be close to my mummy at all times” variety.

Meaning I was forever carrying them around in a sling or wrap.

And I loved it. It not only meant they cried less and were happy out, but it also made it easier to get things done as I had my hands free.

I had a Babybjörn for my little girl that we used a lot for travels (she had a whopping 100 flights under her belt before she turned two!), and a ring sling, like the one below, that we used a lot for around the house and trips out and about. I used both of them with my little boy too, when he joined the family a couple of years later.

And having done it so much with my own two, I would argue that carrying your baby is literally the perfect easy solution to transport them wherever your day takes you, whether you are popping out to the shops or collecting older kids from school or creche.

And guess what, new parents? I recently came across the most amazingly stylish baby carriers I have ever seen – and honestly, I’d almost consider going again just to get to order one of these.

Say hello to Artipoppe – and be prepared to be a babywearing convert in an instant.

Seriously, how gorgeous are these carriers and wraps?!

And not only that, but you can use these from birth to toddlerhood, meaning it will no doubt end up becoming your most-used baby purchase.

The thing is, babywearing is not only beneficial for you, as you get to still have the use of your two hands, and it saves you from pushing the stroller around everywhere you go. But did you know babies who are worn often cry less and sleep better?

It’s true. Being close to mum or dad, in fact, has all sorts of benefits for your little one.

Our instincts tell us to keep our babies close, where they are safe and being loved. Our busy and demanding lives, however, often do not allow us to listen to our instincts. Using a carrier to keep our young ones close while keeping our hands free is a way to make our lives more convenient, while at the same time, allowing us to better meet our baby’s basic needs.

While there are a variety of child-rearing theories, attachment researchers all agree on one thing:

In order for a baby’s emotional, intellectual, and physiological systems to function optimally, the continued presence of a parent, one of the most important benefits of babywearing, is a necessary regulatory influence.
