5 reasons wine is good for your health

HerFamily

First things first, we’re not suggesting that you should drink a bottle a night or increase your intake, but some of the health benefits that have been linked to the odd glass of wine are interesting.

So interesting that you may have the urge to pour yourself a little tipple as soon as you have the kids to bed and are finished reading this (it’s what happened to us).

Here are 5 reasons wine (in moderation) is good for you…

A healthy heart

As wine has lots of antioxidants, it is claimed that it protects against cardiovascular disease and keeps your cholesterol levels in check. That must be why we LOVE it so much.

Fights cancer

Moderate consumption of red wine has been found to reduce the risk of certain types of cancer. It contains polyphenols – including resveratrol – which are thought to have properties that defend against disease.

Remember this

Experts in the US did an experiment a matter of years ago which found that red wine can improve memory and reduces the risk of developing dementia. Raspberries and dark chocolate are also said to have this property.

Happy days

According to a study in Spain, having a few glasses of wine each week reduces your risk of depression and puts a smile on your face. It is not known why exactly this is but we reckon it has something to do with the taste and the fact that it makes you feel so relaxed!

Strong bones

Osteoporosis is a common condition but wine is believed to combat it. It seems those who have one to three glasses of wine per day had greater bone density than non-drinkers or heavy drinkers.
