Addicted to Tea? We’ve Got Some Very Good News For You…

Katie Mythen-Lynch

Put the kettle on; that morning cuppa could significantly reduce your risk of having a heart attack or stroke.

Researchers Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, US have discovered that tea drinkers lower their risk of cardiovascular death by a whopping 35 per cent.

Starting in 2000, the team examined data from more than 6,000 men and women who were all free of heart disease before beginning the study.

Those who drank black or green tea, even as little as one cup per day, were one third less likely to suffer a cardiovascular event.

While more research is needed to understand the potentially protective properties of tea leaves, the doctors did confirm that ‘being a moderate tea drinker was associated with a decreased progression of coronary artery calcium and decreased incidence of major adverse cardiovascular events.

The study supports previous research that suggest the antioxidants and nutrients in tea have powerful effects on the body.
