You’re almost there! Five easy ways to beat the midweek slump

Time to make Wednesday the new Friday!

Trine Jensen-Burke

Ah, Wednesday.

We are half way through the work-week but Friday evening and that weekend feeling still seems like light-years away, no? But fear not, there are plenty of ways to make Wednesday into a much-needed pit-stop on you way towards the weekend.

Here are 5 super simple ways to beat the Hump Day Horrors and get through the rest of the week feeling energized and motivated…

1. Start a Hump Day tradition
Midweek is the perfect occasion to celebrate what you have accomplished so far this week (be it a mega-deal at work or just managing to get to the bottom of the laundry basket – it all deserves some recognition and self-praise. And wine possibly.)

Launch yourself into the rest of your week by making Wednesday the night you do something special with your significant other or family. Invite the extended family, make it a mammy-and-daddy date night, whatever you choose, try to set Wednesday aside as a special day for re-centering yourself and getting back the energy and positivity you need to finish the week strong.

2. Schedule in a breakfast date with a friends or co-worker
Informal meetings or just some face-to-face time with a good friend are brilliant ways to put you in a good mood on a Wednesday morning.

Small-talk and a good laugh is a great way to decompress and beat any stress you are under. Order pancakes as an extra treat – and make that a double espresso. No better way to kick-start the rest of the week.

3. Work out
A midweek run or trip to the gym is not only great for your body, it will also do wonders for your mood. Studies have repeatedly shown that exercise will not only boost productivity, but will also ward off both sleepiness, stress and depression.

4. Get out and have some fun
There is no law saying you have to leave all the festivities for the weekend. In fact, Wednesday is the perfect evening to go out, whether you hit the local wine bar, go for dinner or catch a movie.

Missing a babysitter? How about ordering in from your favourite take-out, whipping up some tasty, made-in-a-minute treats and parking yourself (and the family) on the sofa for a good old Netflix marathon?

5. Breathe
Deep breathing and meditation is a great way to calm down and remove yourself from the overwhelming stress of the week, whether at work or at home. Take some time out for yourself, have a bath, light some candles, lie down for a moment, or just try to focus on positive thoughts (and not the 7 million things that still needs to be done before Friday!).
