Clean beauty: 10 all-natural beauty buys for anyone looking to live a cleaner, kinder life

Trine Jensen-Burke

The clean beauty industry is booming.

Which, I think we can all agree, is great news.

More and more of us are waking up to the fact that what we put on our bodies, not just in them, has a massive impact on our health and wellbeing. Our skin is a living, breathing organ, and a porous one at that, meaning that what you put on it, also ends up inside it, in our bloodstream, cells and organs.

And when you realise this, you will start to understand why more and more of us are opting to stay well away from conventional and toxic beauty products, which are often filled with ingredients known to harm both our hormones and overall health.

Luckily, there are so many amazing clean beauty products out there today that you will be spoilt for choice when swapping from toxic to better-for-you beauty and wellness products. Products that are safe for you, non-harmful to the environment and cruelty-free – meaning no animals had to suffer for your wellbeing either.

Right now, we are loving these 10 products, all of which we have tried and tested ourselves – perfect for anyone looking to live a cleaner, kinder life in 2020:

1. Trilogy Everything Balm

I have several pots of this little multi-tasking beauty tool on the go at any given time. In my handbag, in my pocket, on my bathroom shelf, the Everything Balm from Trilogy is perfect for pretty much anything and anywhere. I use it as a lip balm, to soften my cuticles, slather it on dry hands, knees, elbows and heels, put it on scrapes and cuts and now my children are obsessed too, asking for some for any little ouch or hurt they may have.

Tip: The Trilogy Everything Balm is ideal to bring in your handbag for travel, as it is so good to soothe dry skin. I never wear makeup when I travel, and so will apply a thin layer of this onto my skin as soon as I have boarded, and voila; no more dry and parched skin upon arrival.

2. The Organic Pharmacy Carrot Butter Cleanser

Every since trying balm cleansers for the first time a few years back, I have been obsessed. The most gentle, luxurious and effective way to remove makeup, balm cleansers just melt when in contact with your skin, allowing you to gently wipe off grime, dirt, dead skin cells and makeup – including eye makeup.

This Carrot Butter Cleanser from The Organic Pharmacy is my all-time favourite, I love the scent, and the fact that it is infused with rosemary, carrot oil and shea butter, leaving my skin feeling so utterly cleansed, soft and deeply nourished every time.

3. Weleda Skin Food

Another multi-tasking beauty hero I simply cannot live without.

Weleda Skin Food is a cult product for a reason, and you can use it so many different ways (dry heels, dry hands, chapped lips etc.), but my very favourite way to use it, is as a really rich and soothing overnight face mask. I simply cleanse my skin, and then apply a thin layer of Skin Food onto my face before bed. The next morning, I wake up with smooth, nourished and super-glowy skin – every time.

It is also one of those products I always have in my bag when travelling, as it is so perfect for combatting dry skin.

4. Beauty Kubes Zero Waste Shampoo

This will change everything you think you know about washing your hair.

These 27 plastic-free cubes are not only such a treat for your hair (as they are infused with rose extract, coconut milk, pro-vitamin B5, vitamin E, and meadowfoam seed oil) and will leave it soft, shiny and healthy, but they are also so much better for the planet than your usual disposable shampoo bottles.

Oh, and did I mention the shampoo cubes are also vegan, free from palm oil and sulphate-free?

5. Rudolph Care Mist Delight

I discovered this gorgeous Danish all-natural beauty brand a couple of years ago, and it is safe to say that I am now obsessed.

One of my very favourite Rudolph Care products is this amazing facial toner mist, which I always carry around in my bag for some instant freshness and energy when I need it the most.

The Mist Delight features some very skin-friendly ingredients, such as ginger, which effectively reduces free radicals to protect the skin from pollution, as well as honey, which naturally attracts and retains moisture. Calendula extract has a purifying effect and works to soothe minor skin issues such as redness and irritation, and Mist Delight is also rich in essential fatty acids, minerals and vitamins to care for the skin and give it freshness, moisture and nourishment.

I love how the spray comes in two sizes, the 100 ml below, which is perfect to keep in the bathroom, and also a 30 ml version, ideal for travel or just your everyday handbag – for a refreshing spritz of energy during the day.

6. Votary Super Seed Facial Oil

There are facial oils, and then there is Votary’s Super Seed Facial Oil, made from 22 different seed oils for skin that is sensitive, in hormonal flux or unsettled. And yes, I know it’s pricy, but trust me, your skin will thank you for this treat – and look better than it has ever looked.

Packed with natural, plant-powered goodness, Votary Super Seed Oil naturally addresses sensitive skin issues to give you healthy, glowing, dewy skin.

7. Ere Perez Oat Milk Foundation

It can be harder to find good quality clean beauty makeup than skincare, but I am currently obsessed with my new Ere Perez Oat Milk Foundation from The Clean Beauty Edit.

The unique formula uses oat milk as its star ingredient and is thus perfect for all skin types, and even my naturally sensitive and reactive skin loves it.

The buildable foundation comes in six shades (Latte, Honey, Chai, Caramel, Brew and Mocha) and I am obsessed with how it feels super gentle, sinks into my skin so easily, and lasts all day. My skin feels fresh, like it can breathe, which I really love, as this is often my issue with other foundations.

8. Pestle & Mortar NMF Lactic Acid Toner

Pestle & Mortar is another one of those clean beauty brands that is just always on my radar –especially as they are an Irish company and the founder is this amazing mum-boss mother-of-five! Every single product they have brought out has been nothing short of amazing, and I simply cannot live without their truly cult product the Superstar Retinoid Night Oil.

However, I was equally impressed by their most recent release, the NMF Lactic Acid Toner, a super-gentle formula that really made my skin appear brighter and more glowy, even after just a couple of day’s use.

The super-ingredient in this product is the Indian Gooseberry, which will brighten and tone your skin, while also leaving a natural healthy glow.

A star by from a star brand.

9. Zoya Nailpolish in ‘Payton’

Even nail polish brands have gone clean, and I am obsessed with several of them at the moment, especially Zoya. Containing no harmful toxins (which conventional nail polishes are usually full of), the ‘Payton’ shade will provide a deep and opaque coverage, for a super sophisticated look dashed with holographic, diamond-like glitter, that sparkles when it catches the light.

10. Rudolph Care Acai Body Oil

Another favourite find, the award-winning, luxurious body oil featuring Rudolph Care’s distinctive blend of organic oils that provides my skin with intensive moisture and a beautiful, healthy glow.

My evening routine now always include this gorgeous, luxurious oil, and I love how it sinks in immediately, leaving my entire body looking and feeling soft, glowy and super nourished. Oh, and it doesn’t hurt that the scent will make you feel you are at a luxury spa either.

Enriched with organic acai, sweet almond, jojoba and olive oils, Acai Body Oil is packed with antioxidants to protect and strengthen the skin, making it soft and supple to the touch.
